The Six Bells was used in the filming of several episodes of the famous TV series Dad’s Army.
It was used for episodes like – “Ring Dem Bells”, “Wake Up Walmington and “All Is Safely Gatherd In”
The old Barn and Stables (now the bedrooms) are also said to have been used in certain episodes.
Most Of the Dad’s Army series was filmed in the locality and several sites are still easily recognisable:-
The opening sequence was filmed at Knettishall Heath and many of the countryside scenes were also shot there.
Bardwell Village Green was used during the episode”The Honourable Man”
Drinkstone Windwill was featured in “Don’t Forget The Diver”
Thetford Town Centre was used in many episodes and Thetford Guild Hall was ‘Walmington Town Hall’ !!!
But in essence the heart of Dad’s Army was Honington Village – about 2 miles from Bardwell – with the Church and Primary School standing in as St Aldhelms Church and Church Hall.
There is also a Dads Army Museum you can visit in thetford which has unique visitor experience, talks and presentations, location tours, events, a museum shop and a tea room.

They also recently got the original butcher’s van used by Lance Corporal Jack Jones through auction bringing the iconic van back home to ‘walmington-on-sea’ .
