Abbey Gardens

See the Abbey and Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds. As winners of "Britain in Bloom 1999" and "Nations in Bloom 1999" Bury St Edmunds offers beautiful floral displays with the jewel in the crown being the Abbey Gardens with it's 62 island beds, award winning blooms and unusual plants. Take the time to explore some of the hidden alley ways which will reveal creative gardens and stunning hanging basket displays.

Go walking through Thetford Forest (the largest lowland forest in England), Knettishall Heath (the largest country park in Suffolk) - where two long distance footpath major routes from bygone days meet - The Peddars Way and the Angles Way. Visit the West Stow Country Park with it's recreated Anglo Saxon Village. There is also Sutton Hoo a site that has been developed by the National Trust and an exhibition that includes some of the original artefacts excavated from Anglo Saxon burial chambers.

 

Go racing at Newmarket, the home of Racing. Visit the National Horse Racing Museum and the National Stud. Guided tours of historic Newmarket provide a flavour of customs of the Stuart period and take in some of the more important buildings in the town.

Jones' Van

Take a train ride at Bressingham Steam Centre or select a plant at the world famous Bressingham Plant Centre, or enjoy the two gardens created by Alan Bloom - the Dell Garden and Foggy Bottom. New in 2000 was the "Dad's Army Collection" - a tribute to the famous TV series.

 

Explore the colleges at Cambridge including the famous Kings College or take a punt along the backs.

Sample some wine at one of the many Suffolk vineyards, visit Wyken Hall & vineyard only a mile or two away.

Go back in time and enjoy the Victorian sea side towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh.

Relax by Flatford Mill - the scene of Constables famous "Haywain".
